Great success at the Austrian Music Theatre Awards for the Vienna State Opera and Vienna Volksoper

Eine Theaterbühne mit zahlreichen Darstellerinnen in Kostümen. Die Bühne ist in violettes Licht getaucht und erzeugt eine dramatische Atmosphäre. Über den Schauspielerinnen hängt ein leuchtendes Schild mit der Aufschrift „ALL ANIMALS ARE EQUAL“ – ein Zitat aus George Orwells Roman Animal Farm. Die Kulisse ist minimalistisch gestaltet, mit weißen Wänden und geometrischen Strukturen, die von der Decke hängen. Einige Darsteller*innen halten Schilder mit der Aufschrift „VOTE“ und einer Schweinezeichnung, was auf ein politisches Thema hinweist. Die Szene wirkt wie eine moderne, experimentelle Inszenierung von Animal Farm, die Themen wie Gleichheit, Propaganda und gesellschaftliche Machtverhältnisse betont.

The Vienna State Opera triumphed in the prestigious category of Best Male Lead, with Georg Nigl winning for his role as Nekrotzar in ‘Le Grand Macabre’. The awards for Best Supporting Role (Holly Flack as Molly the mare in ‘Animal Farm’ and Michael Laurenz as David in ‘Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg’) and Best Set Design (Paolo Fantin and Klaus Bruns for ‘Animal Farm’) also went to the opera house on the Ring.

Congratulations also to the Vienna Volksoper, which received two awards yesterday evening. Jaye Simmons, a member of the ensemble, was named Best Female Newcomer, and the production ‘Lass uns die Welt vergessen’ (Let's Forget the World) was honoured as Best Original and First Performance.
