The Vienna State Opera triumphed in the prestigious category of Best Male Lead, with Georg Nigl winning for his role as Nekrotzar in ‘Le Grand Macabre’. The awards for Best Supporting Role (Holly Flack as Molly the mare in ‘Animal Farm’ and Michael Laurenz as David in ‘Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg’) and Best Set Design (Paolo Fantin and Klaus Bruns for ‘Animal Farm’) also went to the opera house on the Ring.
Congratulations also to the Vienna Volksoper, which received two awards yesterday evening. Jaye Simmons, a member of the ensemble, was named Best Female Newcomer, and the production ‘Lass uns die Welt vergessen’ (Let's Forget the World) was honoured as Best Original and First Performance.
Barbara Pálffy, photographer at the Vienna Volksoper, was awarded a special prize for theatre photography.
