Volksoper 2026/27

In "Ronja, the Robber’s Daughter", a new musical theatre experience for the whole family, the focus is on friendship, courage and the power of nature, whilst the second world premiere, "Zur heißen Zitrone", featuring Austropop hits, celebrates the devotion of allotment gardeners to their plots.

In the repertoire classics "Così fan tutte" and "Der Opernball", several couples in each are put through a test of fidelity. "The Seven Deadly Sins"/ "Gianni Schicchi", combined in a double bill, portray the family as a hotbed of hypocrisy, selfishness and exploitation.

In the musical "Chicago", too, the protagonists are driven by a quest for fame, glamour and self-love. In "Hello, Dolly!", the season’s second Broadway hit, on the other hand, love is viewed in a light-hearted and positive light.

In "Reigen", the Opera Studio explores ten couples who could not be more different, and duets also take centre stage in the ballet premiere "Masterpieces for Two". "Carmen Suite",  the Vienna State Ballet’s second premiere, is dedicated to a heroine for whom the love of freedom takes precedence over everything else.
